The aurora borealis are the beautiful dancing waves of light that have captivated the imagination for millennia.  They often appear high in the northern sky above the towering summit of Bein a’ Ghlo casting a mystical glimmer across the Atholl Glens.
 
Legend has it that Aurora the goddess of the dawn travelled from east to west to announce the coming of the sun and spectacularly met the Greek god of the north wind, Boreas in the darkest hour of midnight in depths of the long cold winter creating a brilliant display of dynamic patterns of flickering lights covering the entire sky.
